The KP CNG gas supply issue has intensified after the federal government rejected a request to provide gas for CNG stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing ongoing energy shortages in the country.
According to official sources, the decision was conveyed after a telephonic conversation between provincial adviser on finance Muzzammil Aslam and federal petroleum minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.
During the discussion, the provincial side highlighted that the suspension of CNG supply is causing severe difficulties for the public, particularly transport users who rely heavily on affordable fuel options.
However, the federal government maintained that Pakistan is currently facing a significant gas shortage, limiting its ability to supply additional volumes for non-essential sectors such as CNG stations.
Officials added that any increase in supply to CNG stations will only be considered after additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports are secured and overall supply conditions improve.
The KP CNG gas supply issue reflects broader energy challenges in the country, where rising demand and limited domestic production continue to strain the national grid.
Authorities indicated that priority will remain on household and industrial consumers until the gas supply situation stabilizes through imports and improved management.
