ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that Imran Khan’s health was, is and will remain the responsibility of the government. He said the government is committed to ensuring that the former prime minister receives the necessary medical care and health facilities.
Speaking to the media, Chaudhry said the government was also praying for Imran Khan’s good health. He claimed that the former prime minister had been provided with the best available medical facilities even without an appeal from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The federal minister also commented on PTI’s recent stance toward the judiciary. He said it was encouraging to see PTI members praising the courts, but questioned what he described as a change in attitude when judicial decisions went against the party. According to him, the judiciary in Pakistan is independent and making decisions on merit.
Chaudhry reiterated that the government would fully implement the Supreme Court’s decision concerning Imran Khan. He said the government would comply with the court’s directives and would continue to fulfill its responsibility regarding the former prime minister’s health and medical treatment.
Discussing the possibility of Imran Khan’s release, the minister said courts were the only legal channel through which a path to release could emerge. He added that people had secured release through the courts in the past and maintained that the prime minister did not have executive authority to act contrary to judicial decisions.
Regarding the opposition leadership, Chaudhry said the opposition leaders were not formally associated with PTI but had the confidence of Imran Khan. He said the government had made it clear that the opposition leadership should have PTI’s confidence so that political discussions could proceed without confusion or conflicting positions.
