The Supreme Court has rejected a request for an early hearing of a contempt petition concerning Imran Khan hospital transfer to Shifa International Hospital.
The petition was filed by Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan. She challenged the alleged non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s August 18 order regarding his transfer for medical treatment.
Uzma Khan had requested that the contempt case be taken up urgently, preferably during the current week or the following week. The request came amid concerns raised in the petition about Imran Khan’s health while he remains in jail.
The Supreme Court had ordered that the PTI founder be transferred to Shifa International Hospital. The court also directed authorities to form a special medical board to assess his health and oversee his medical examination.
Under the court’s order, Imran Khan’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, were also permitted to accompany him during his hospital treatment.
Authorities transferred Imran Khan to PIMS Hospital on the night of August 20-21 for medical tests and treatment. Two specialists from Shifa International Hospital took part in his eye examination, while PIMS specialists conducted other medical assessments before he returned to Adiala Jail.
According to the petition, an earlier request for an expedited hearing had been rejected by the Supreme Court registrar’s office. The main Imran Khan hospital transfer case and the contempt petition are now scheduled for hearing on September 16.
