Maryam Nawaz public safety remained the focus of the Punjab chief minister’s address on Friday as she urged government institutions, religious scholars, parents, and citizens to work together against both visible and hidden threats affecting society. Speaking at a meeting of the Provincial Paigham-e-Aman Committee in Lahore, she stressed that ensuring public safety requires collective responsibility.
Maryam Nawaz said tackling crime is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement agencies. She noted that while security forces can respond to visible threats, society must also confront harmful attitudes and behaviors that affect homes, neighborhoods, and communities. According to her, long-term peace depends on public awareness alongside effective policing.
Highlighting the government’s priorities, the chief minister said the protection of women and children remains at the center of Punjab’s policies. She remarked that infrastructure development alone is not enough if citizens do not feel secure in their daily lives. She added that creating a safe environment is essential for social and economic progress.
Referring to recent incidents, Maryam Nawaz said she personally monitored the investigation into the killing of a young girl in Sargodha until the suspects were arrested. She also stated that although crime has declined in Punjab, parents and communities must remain vigilant because government action cannot replace family supervision.
The chief minister also expressed concern over accidents involving children, including drownings during the summer season and fatalities linked to uncovered manholes. She said local authorities continue replacing stolen manhole covers, but repeated theft creates ongoing safety risks for the public.
Addressing parents, Maryam Nawaz urged them to carefully monitor children in markets, public spaces, and educational institutions. Referring to the recent tuition centre roof collapse in Lahore, she advised families to ensure that school and tuition buildings are structurally safe before enrolling their children.
Maryam Nawaz public safety initiatives also included appreciation for Punjab Police personnel performing extended security duties during Muharram. She said lasting peace can only be achieved when government institutions and citizens work together to protect communities and strengthen public trust.
