Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has vowed strict action against offenders, regardless of their political affiliation. Speaking at a scholarship and laptop distribution ceremony at the University of Rasul in Mandi Bahauddin, she said no one would escape accountability because of political connections. She stressed that the government must follow clear principles while protecting citizens from injustice.
Maryam Nawaz said a government could not function effectively if it acted out of fear. She called for a consistent approach to law enforcement and maintained that influential individuals must also face legal consequences. According to her, Punjab’s administration should stand with victims and ensure that people receive protection regardless of their social or political status.
Referring to an assault on a woman riding a motorcycle, Maryam Nawaz said she had told the young victim to respond to the attacker with an equal number of slaps. She also recalled taking a similar position after an assault incident at a petrol station. Her remarks highlighted her stated commitment to addressing violence against ordinary citizens.
The chief minister said no offender would be protected, even if the individual belonged to her own political party. She added that powerful people must not be allowed to escape the law. Maryam Nawaz said her government would not compromise on the dignity and safety of poor citizens and would continue supporting those who face mistreatment.
She also expressed concern that people accused of crimes often secure bail soon after their arrest. Maryam Nawaz said the authorities needed to ensure that legal proceedings addressed victims’ concerns. She added that, if necessary, she would meet the chief justice of Pakistan and the chief justice of the Lahore High Court to discuss the issue.
The chief minister made these remarks while addressing students at the University of Rasul, where the government distributed scholarships and laptops to deserving students. The event focused on educational support and opportunities for young people. Her address also included assurances about the government’s approach to public safety and accountability.
