Aleema Khan detention extended

Punjab Extends Detention of Imran Khan’s Sisters by 30 Days

LAHORE: The Punjab government has extended the detention of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Nooreen Niazi, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, for another 30 days. The development emerged during a hearing at the Lahore High Court on a petition seeking their recovery.

Justice Abhar Gul Khan heard the petition, while Punjab Home Secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail appeared before the court. During the proceedings, the authorities submitted a report outlining the latest status of the three women’s detention.

According to the report presented by the home secretary, the detention period of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Nooreen Niazi had been extended by a further 30 days. The government lawyer informed the court that the deputy commissioner had recommended another extension to the Punjab government.

The report stated that the provincial government approved the extension on October 7. The information provided did not include further details about the grounds for the extension or the complete legal reasoning behind the decision.

During the hearing, Justice Abhar Gul Khan pointed out a procedural issue concerning the petition. The judge observed that the detention notification had been issued by the deputy commissioner, but the petitioner had not made the deputy commissioner a party to the case.

The court further remarked that it could not pass an order beyond the scope of the petition. The observation highlighted the importance of including the relevant authority in legal proceedings concerning an administrative order.
