Punjab Government has decided to introduce amendments to the Madrassa Registration Act in an effort to make the registration system more efficient and streamlined.
According to official sources, the proposed changes aim to relax duplicate registration requirements under the Societies Registration Act for religious seminaries already registered with federal bodies.
Under the new plan, madrassas registered with organizations such as Wafaq ul Madaris and other recognized religious boards will not be required to register again at the provincial level.
The government is also considering legally recognizing federal madrassa registration at the provincial level, ensuring uniformity in documentation and reducing administrative hurdles.
A key proposal includes linking federal and provincial madrassa databases to create a unified digital record system for better coordination and transparency.
Officials said that any madrassa already registered with a federal authority will automatically be considered registered in Punjab, eliminating the need for separate verification processes.
The proposed amendments, prepared after consultations with religious scholars and madrassa administrators, have been forwarded to the provincial cabinet for approval, with a detailed briefing expected soon from the Home Department.
