Pakistan will assume the Pakistan SCO chairmanship 2026-27 as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the declaration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State. The signing ceremony took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The declaration confirms that Pakistan will lead the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-27 term. Shehbaz Sharif signed the document during the summit, formally marking Pakistan’s upcoming leadership role in the regional organisation.
The SCO brings together countries from across the region and provides a platform for cooperation on political, economic and security issues. Pakistan’s chairmanship will give Islamabad an opportunity to advance priorities and strengthen engagement with other member states.
The development comes as Pakistan continues to emphasise regional connectivity, economic cooperation and collective efforts to address shared challenges. Islamabad has also highlighted the importance of peaceful relations and greater cooperation among SCO members.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting. The two ministers reviewed relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Dar and Saidov reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the growing partnership between the two countries. They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest and agreed to further consolidate bilateral ties.
The Pakistan SCO chairmanship 2026-27 is expected to provide Islamabad with a platform to promote its regional priorities. Pakistan has said its SCO leadership will focus on practical cooperation, stronger connectivity and shared prosperity while deepening engagement with member states.
