Astronomical calculations indicate that the new moon marking the beginning of Ramadan will be born on Saturday, February 6, 2027, at 3:56 UTC. The timing of the lunar conjunction will be an important factor in determining when the crescent can potentially be observed.
According to the centre, astronomical visibility calculations have been prepared for February 6 and 7. Based on the pre-calculated Hijri calendar, however, the first day of Ramadan is expected to be February 8.
If the official UAE religious calendar follows the astronomical projection, residents across the country are expected to begin fasting from February 8. However, the final date will depend on the official announcement based on the relevant moon-sighting process.
The International Astronomical Centre has also provided an astronomical estimate for the beginning of Shawwal. Calculations suggest that the Shawwal new moon will be born on Monday, March 8, 2027, at 9:29 UTC.
Based on these calculations, Eid al-Fitr 2027 could fall on March 9 or 10. The exact date will depend on the sighting of the crescent and the official determination of the start of Shawwal.
Meanwhile, Eid al-Adha 2027 is currently expected to fall on May 16 or 17. These dates are astronomical projections and should not be treated as final until officially confirmed by the UAE’s religious authorities.
