Russian strikes in Kyiv

Russian Strikes Kill Three in Kyiv Region, Official Says

Russian strikes in Kyiv region killed three people, including a child, on Saturday, according to a Ukrainian official. The attacks were reported at several locations near the Ukrainian capital, while emergency incidents were also recorded inside Kyiv.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv regional administration, said Russian strikes were recorded at three locations in the Boryspil district. The district lies near the capital and has previously been affected by attacks during the ongoing war.

Tkachenko said three additional people were injured in the attacks. Authorities were assessing the impact of the strikes and dealing with the consequences as the security situation remained tense around the capital.

Inside Kyiv itself, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported fires in two districts following an air raid alert. Residents were also affected by several powerful explosions, according to Reuters witnesses who heard blasts that shook parts of the city centre.

The latest Russian strikes in Kyiv come amid continued Russian attacks across Ukraine. The strikes have increased pressure on Ukrainian authorities, particularly as the country faces challenges in protecting major population centres from aerial attacks.

Ukraine has repeatedly called for stronger air-defence capabilities to protect cities and critical infrastructure. The country remains short of systems capable of intercepting some of the ballistic missiles used by Russia during its attacks.

The latest casualties near the capital highlight the continuing risks faced by civilians in Ukraine. The Russian strikes in Kyiv region, along with fires and explosions reported inside the capital, underscore the ongoing threat of aerial attacks as the war continues.
