Russia Strikes Major Bridge in Kyiv, Traffic Disrupted

A Russia strikes Kyiv bridge incident has caused fresh disruption in the Ukrainian capital after a major attack damaged the Northern Bridge, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Klitschko said on Saturday that the Northern Bridge had been hit following a drone alert. Emergency services were sent to the site as authorities assessed the damage caused by the latest strike.

The attack damaged the road surface and trolleybus wires on the bridge, according to the mayor. Traffic moving from Kyiv’s left bank toward the right bank was subsequently blocked.

The Russia strikes Kyiv bridge attack came a day after the Southern Bridge was also targeted during a wider wave of strikes. The incidents have created major traffic problems across the capital as residents search for alternative routes.

Authorities said multiple crossings over the Dnipro River have come under attack. These bridges are important links between the eastern and western parts of Kyiv and play a key role in the movement of residents and vehicles.

On Friday, authorities closed the Southern Bridge and restricted movement on another crossing. The strikes caused long lines of cars and buses, while some commuters were forced to continue their journeys on foot.

The Northern Bridge attack adds to growing pressure on Kyiv’s transport infrastructure. The conflict began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, while recent attacks have increased disruption in the capital.
