US Democratic Congressman Suhas Subramanyam has called for an end to the Iran war, arguing that American taxpayer money should be directed towards addressing domestic economic and social challenges. In an interview with Geo News, the Virginia representative stressed the importance of prioritising the needs of ordinary Americans.
Subramanyam said that ending the conflict would allow the United States to focus more resources on reducing the cost of essential goods, improving healthcare services and making housing more affordable. His remarks highlight concerns over public spending and the financial pressures facing American households.
The Democratic lawmaker is also seeking re-election to Congress from Virginia. He said that if Democrats win, they would put the American people first and focus on issues directly affecting their daily lives, including the rising cost of living and access to essential services.
Subramanyam criticised the Trump administration over its immigration policies, alleging that recent measures are affecting legal immigrants. He argued that immigration rules should be reviewed to ensure that people following established legal procedures are treated fairly.
The congressman also raised concerns about long-term work visa holders who, according to him, have been working in the United States for around 20 years but are still unable to obtain green cards. Such cases, he suggested, demonstrate the difficulties faced by some immigrants navigating the American immigration system.
He further pointed to problems with visa appointment availability at US embassies and consulates. Subramanyam also expressed concern about the scope of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), saying that the agency should not exceed its authority.
