The Pakistan Digital Authority is expected to become the country’s central data regulator under the proposed National Data Governance Policy 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen digital governance, improve data management, and enhance coordination among federal institutions.
According to official documents, the Pakistan Digital Authority will oversee data governance across all federal government departments. Every federal institution will be required to comply with the National Data Governance Framework to ensure standardized data management practices.
The proposed policy grants the authority broad regulatory powers to develop, monitor, and enforce data governance standards. These measures are intended to improve transparency, security, and efficient data sharing within the public sector.
Under the new framework, the Pakistan Digital Authority will supervise the National Open Data Portal, which is designed to improve public access to government data while encouraging innovation, research, and digital services.
The authority will also oversee the National Data Exchange Platform, enabling secure data sharing among government agencies. Officials believe the platform will reduce duplication, improve service delivery, and support evidence-based policymaking.
The proposed National Data Governance Policy 2026 represents a significant step toward Pakistan’s digital transformation strategy. If approved, the Pakistan Digital Authority will play a central role in modernizing government data systems, strengthening digital infrastructure, and promoting secure and responsible data governance across the country.
