Pakistan’s star athlete Arshad Nadeem has secured a place in the Commonwealth Games javelin throw final, keeping the country’s medal hopes alive. Despite a challenging qualification round, Nadeem advanced to the final after finishing among the top 12 performers.
The qualification round consisted of three attempts for each athlete, with competitors required to achieve the automatic qualification standard of 84 metres. However, none of the participants managed to reach the required mark, making overall rankings the deciding factor for final qualification.
Competing against a strong international field, Arshad Nadeem recorded a best throw of 78.63 metres, which earned him seventh place in the qualification standings. His performance was sufficient to secure a berth in the final, where he will now aim to improve his distance and challenge for a medal.
Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan was unable to qualify for the final after finishing 14th with a best throw of 74.36 metres. As only the top 12 athletes progressed, he narrowly missed the cut despite a determined effort in the qualifying competition.
Several other athletes also advanced to the medal round. Keshorn Walcott of The Bahamas qualified with a throw of 78.60 metres, while India’s Rohit Yadav registered 78.37 metres and Yash Veer Singh threw 78.36 metres, with both securing places in the final lineup.
Other qualifiers included Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, who produced a throw of 78.26 metres, and N. Nnamdi of Nigeria, who advanced after recording 75.27 metres. The closely contested qualification round highlighted the competitive nature of the event, with only small margins separating several athletes.
