The Karachi Rangers attack investigation has entered a new phase after police named six alleged masterminds in the deadly assault on a Rangers transport facility in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. According to the first information report (FIR), the suspects are accused of planning and coordinating the attack, while investigations into the wider network remain ongoing.
The case has been registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station on the complaint of Rangers Sub-Inspector Asad Mehmood Khan. The FIR includes charges related to terrorism, murder, attempted murder, damage to public property, use of explosives and illegal weapons, and criminal conspiracy under relevant laws.
According to the FIR, the attack took place on the night of June 27, 2026, when a suicide bomber detonated explosives near the entrance of the Rangers workshop facility. Police said three armed attackers then entered the premises and opened fire while also throwing hand grenades. The incident resulted in the deaths of three Rangers personnel, while several others sustained injuries.
The Karachi Rangers attack investigation states that Rangers’ Quick Reaction Force and Special Force responded to the assault, killing two suspected attackers during the exchange of fire. A third injured suspect was arrested at the scene and later taken into police custody for questioning.
Investigators said the arrested suspect allegedly disclosed details about the group’s planning, travel route, and associates during interrogation. Police further alleged that the suspects had stayed at a temporary residence in Karachi before the attack and had carried out reconnaissance of the targeted facility. These claims are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been independently verified.
Police have alleged that the attackers were linked to the banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and identified six individuals as alleged masterminds, including commander Umar Qari. The FIR also claims that some suspects received training outside Pakistan before the attack. Authorities say investigations are continuing to identify additional facilitators and gather further evidence.
The Karachi Rangers attack investigation remains underway, with multiple related cases also registered by police. Officials say further legal proceedings will depend on the outcome of the investigation and evidence presented before the courts. The allegations contained in the FIR have not yet been tested in court.
