Iran’s senior adviser to the Supreme Leader, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, has reaffirmed Tehran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz, stating that Iran will not allow any alternative route or arrangement that conflicts with its national interests. He said the country’s policy regarding the strategically important waterway remains unchanged despite growing regional tensions.
Rezaei also issued a warning to the United States, saying that any additional deployment of warships or military forces to the region could trigger a response from Iran. According to him, increasing military activity in the Gulf would only heighten tensions rather than contribute to regional stability.
The senior Iranian official further claimed that several commercial vessels have changed course after receiving warnings from Iran. He alleged that ships choosing to follow US instructions instead of Iranian warnings risk facing operational difficulties before eventually altering their routes.
Rezaei emphasized that Tehran remains committed to its long-standing position on the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that Iran would not reopen the strategic waterway under conditions dictated by the United States and would continue to safeguard its national security and maritime interests.
Commenting on Ukraine, Rezaei claimed that Iran had prepared plans to strike three targets at one stage. However, he said the operation was abandoned after Ukraine reportedly acknowledged responsibility for an incident involving an Iranian vessel, leading Tehran to suspend the planned action.
Despite that, Rezaei asserted that Ukraine would still have to face consequences over the incident. His remarks reflect Iran’s continued criticism of Kyiv and underline the broader geopolitical tensions involving Tehran and its international rivals.
