Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has strongly criticized the results of the recent Azad Kashmir elections, reacting to statements made by Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. Memon claimed that the election results would be remembered in history as “Form 47 Plus.”
Sharjeel Memon alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had once again secured what he described as a mandate through alleged electoral rigging. He claimed that voters rejected the PML-N in 2026 just as they had in 2024, arguing that the announced results did not reflect the genuine public opinion.
The Sindh senior minister further stated that a government could be formed through what he called a “fake mandate,” but genuine popularity and public support could not be achieved through such means. He maintained that political legitimacy ultimately depends on the confidence and support of the people.
Memon also responded to Nawaz Sharif’s criticism of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He said Nawaz Sharif should first examine how the current situation in Azad Kashmir developed before questioning the PPP’s position. According to Memon, concerns surrounding the electoral process should be addressed rather than dismissed.
The PPP leader also rejected Maryam Nawaz’s comparison between the Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir elections. He said the PPP had accepted the public mandate where it was reflected, while also expressing its concerns regarding aspects of the electoral process.
Sharjeel Memon emphasized that electoral manipulation or interference with the public mandate cannot be justified in the name of democracy. He said political parties should respect the voters’ decision and ensure that the electoral process remains transparent, credible and fair.
