Iranian Embassy Claims Karoline Leavitt Resigned Over Disappointment With Trump

The Karoline Leavitt resignation has triggered a fresh political controversy after Iran’s embassy in South Africa challenged the official explanation for the White House press secretary’s departure. The embassy claimed that Leavitt did not resign simply to spend more time with her family but was instead disappointed with President Donald Trump.

Leavitt is set to leave her position as White House press secretary at the end of August 2026. Trump said she was stepping down to spend more time with her family, while also indicating that she would remain involved as an outside adviser and prominent supporter of his political movement.

According to reports cited in the claim, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa also shared an image of Leavitt appearing unhappy. The embassy accompanied the image with sharply worded comments criticizing the relationship between Trump and his staff, linking its remarks to an alleged incident involving the president’s security arrangements.

The Iranian diplomatic mission alleged that Leavitt became disillusioned with Trump after an incident during his Turkey trip. Its statement suggested that a leader who places staff members at risk while seeking his own escape would undermine their confidence and loyalty. These allegations, however, represent the Iranian embassy’s characterization and have not been independently established.

The White House rejected the Iranian embassy’s account, reportedly arguing that Leavitt was not with Trump during the Turkey trip. The response directly challenges the basis of the embassy’s allegation and reinforces the administration’s explanation that Leavitt’s departure is primarily connected to family considerations.

Leavitt recently returned to her duties after maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May 2026. Trump publicly praised her performance and confirmed that she would continue to have a role as an outside political adviser after leaving the administration.
