The Iranian cargo ship dispute has intensified after China strongly rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding a vessel seized by American forces. Beijing described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
According to Chinese officials, the Iranian cargo ship dispute began after Trump suggested that the intercepted Iranian-flagged vessel was actually a “gift from China” to Iran. The claim was firmly denied by China’s Foreign Ministry.
A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, stated that the Iranian cargo ship dispute should not be used to distort normal international trade relations. He emphasized that countries must not politicize commercial maritime activity.
China stressed that it had repeatedly clarified its position and remains committed to international responsibilities. It described itself as a responsible global power that supports stable and lawful trade practices.
Beijing further rejected all unverified claims linked to the Iranian cargo ship dispute, stating that such narratives undermine trust in global trade systems and should not be used in geopolitical conflicts.
Meanwhile, US Central Command confirmed that the vessel remains under American custody after being intercepted in a strategic maritime operation. The ship was reportedly stopped after failing to comply with directives in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian cargo ship dispute comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where naval activity and strategic blockades have increased. The situation has further complicated already strained US-Iran relations.
