Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has declared that the government will no longer engage in dialogue with groups accused of spreading unrest in the name of politics. The Faisal Mumtaz Rathore statement comes amid growing tensions following recent developments involving the Joint Awami Action Committee and its planned strike call.
In a strongly worded statement, Rathore said the government was fully aware of the motives of individuals and groups allegedly attempting to create instability in the region. He claimed that certain political groups and social media activists were actively working to fuel uncertainty and disorder in Azad Kashmir.
The prime minister alleged that individuals involved in protests, demonstrations and acts of violence had repeatedly refused opportunities for dialogue. According to him, past efforts to bring the Joint Awami Action Committee to the negotiating table had not produced meaningful results despite several attempts by the government.
Referring to previous statements made by leaders of the committee, Rathore said their remarks were on record and reflected what he described as confrontational intentions. He maintained that while the state respected the democratic right to peaceful protest, it would not permit pressure tactics or actions that disrupt public order.
The Faisal Mumtaz Rathore statement also highlighted what he described as the region’s strong record in protecting political and civil rights. He argued that Azad Kashmir offers significant public benefits and welfare measures, including subsidised electricity and flour, which distinguish it from many other regions.
The remarks came a day after the Azad Kashmir government declared the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a banned organisation. Authorities have intensified monitoring of activities linked to the group ahead of its announced strike scheduled for June 9.
Political observers believe the latest developments could further raise tensions between the government and opposition groups. The Faisal Mumtaz Rathore statement signals a tougher official stance as authorities prepare to address any potential law and order challenges in the coming days.
