Security forces killed seven militants during an intelligence-based operation in Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on August 7, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military’s media wing said the operation was launched after intelligence indicated the presence of militants linked by authorities to Fitna al-Khawarij.
According to ISPR, security forces effectively targeted the suspected militant hideout during the Hangu security operation. Seven militants were reported killed in the action. Security officials also recovered weapons and ammunition from the site following the operation, the statement said.
The military said the individuals killed during the operation were allegedly involved in the killing of several civilians. ISPR described the action as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at preventing militant activities and improving security in the region.
During the operation, Captain Hamza was killed while fighting, according to ISPR. The military said Captain Hamza displayed courage while leading his troops and continued pursuing the militants before embracing martyrdom during the encounter.
ISPR further stated that security forces launched a sanitization operation in the surrounding area to locate and eliminate any remaining militants. Such follow-up operations are conducted to ensure that no other suspected militants remain in the area after the initial engagement.
The Hangu operation comes amid continued counterterrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces regularly conduct intelligence-based operations against suspected militant networks. Authorities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of intelligence-led action in disrupting militant activities and protecting civilians.
ISPR said the country’s counterterrorism campaign would continue with full momentum. The military also paid tribute to the sacrifice of Captain Hamza, stating that the courage and sacrifices of security personnel strengthen the nation’s resolve to protect its people and maintain national security. The latest operation underscores the continuing security challenges in the region and the role of intelligence-based operations in addressing them.
