Heavy rain in Lahore disrupted traffic and daily life on Saturday after intense showers inundated low-lying areas, major roads and several underpasses across the city. Water accumulation made movement difficult for motorists and pedestrians.
According to Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) data, Lahore received an average of 24.6 millimetres of rainfall. The highest total was recorded at the airport, where 104mm of rain was reported, followed by 75.6mm at Kahna.
Other areas also recorded significant rainfall, including 62.6mm at Hadiara Defence Road, 58.6mm at Manawan, 40.2mm at Tajpura and 32.8mm at Mughalpura. Several other localities received varying amounts of rain during the day.
The heavy rain in Lahore brought temporary relief from the heat and made the weather more pleasant. However, waterlogging in several neighbourhoods created difficulties for residents and exposed the vulnerability of low-lying areas during periods of intense rainfall.
Wasa Lahore deployed field teams and heavy machinery at multiple locations to remove accumulated water. Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed inspected drainage operations at several major points, including Mubeen Shaheed Underpass, MM Alam Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Qaddafi Stadium and Liberty Chowk.
Traffic authorities also increased monitoring across the city. Chief Traffic Officer Abdul Rahim Shirazi directed supervisory officers to remain in the field, monitor low-lying points and coordinate with Wasa to ensure timely drainage from affected roads.
Traffic police advised motorists to drive at moderate speeds, maintain safe distances and avoid sudden braking on slippery roads. Citizens were also urged to avoid flooded stretches, while pedestrians were warned to stay away from electric poles, transformers, fallen wires, trees and weakened structures during the heavy rain in Lahore.
