Iran accuses US of peace deal violation after American forces carried out fresh military strikes on Iranian coastal facilities, escalating tensions despite a recently signed agreement intended to end the Middle East conflict. Tehran described the attacks as a serious breach of the understanding reached between the two countries.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the strikes as a “blatant violation” of the memorandum of understanding that had ended hostilities. Iranian officials said the attacks targeted coastal surveillance facilities and undermined efforts to preserve the fragile peace established earlier this month.
The latest confrontation followed US military operations conducted on Friday. According to American officials, the strikes targeted Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar installations, in response to an Iranian attack on a cargo vessel transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Washington said the military action was aimed at protecting international shipping and maintaining freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most important energy corridors. The US maintains that its response was defensive and directly linked to the earlier maritime attack.
Iran accuses US of peace deal violation while insisting that the American operation breached international commitments and threatened regional stability. Iranian authorities have not indicated what further diplomatic or military steps they may take following the incident.
The renewed exchange has raised concerns about the durability of the recently negotiated peace arrangement. Analysts warn that continued military actions by either side could undermine efforts to reduce tensions in the Gulf and increase uncertainty for global energy markets.
Despite the latest accusations, there has been no official announcement that either side is abandoning the broader peace framework. International observers are expected to closely monitor developments as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent a wider regional escalation.
