Iran rejects Trump claim

Iran rejects Trump’s claim of requesting continued US talks

Iran rejects Trump claim after Tehran firmly denied US President Donald Trump’s statement that it had requested Washington to continue negotiations. The response from Iran’s Foreign Ministry comes as diplomatic contacts remain under global scrutiny following recent tensions between the two countries.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Tehran had not asked the United States to resume talks under any circumstances. The spokesperson clarified that Iran had only accepted a visit by Qatari mediators, stressing that the move should not be interpreted as a request for direct negotiations with Washington.

According to Reuters, the spokesperson also warned that Iran would respond if the United States violated any clause of the recently agreed memorandum of understanding. Iranian officials said respect for mutual commitments is essential for maintaining diplomatic credibility and preventing further escalation.

Iranian state television quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying that any failure by Washington to honor its commitments would receive a reciprocal and proportionate response. The ministry emphasized that Iran’s future actions would match the nature of any violation committed by the United States.

The Iran rejects Trump claim statement directly contradicts remarks made by President Donald Trump a day earlier. Trump had claimed that Iran approached the United States seeking to continue negotiations and that Washington accepted the request, while also declaring that the previous ceasefire period had ended.

The conflicting statements highlight the deep mistrust that continues to define relations between Tehran and Washington. Although indirect diplomatic channels remain open through regional mediators, both governments continue presenting sharply different narratives regarding ongoing engagement.

Despite the public disagreement, analysts believe regional mediation efforts could still create opportunities for future dialogue if both sides avoid further escalation. For now, Iran maintains that it never requested renewed negotiations, while reaffirming that any breach of commitments would trigger an equivalent response.
