Iran US talks deadline

Iran Says 60-Day US Talks Deadline Lost Relevance

Iran has said the Iran US talks deadline has lost its relevance following what Tehran described as serious US violations of a June memorandum. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks on Monday.

Baqaei said the memorandum did not establish a formal 60-day deadline for negotiations. He said Iran does not shape its policies under pressure, ultimatums or imposed time limits. The agreement instead outlined a 60-day negotiation period.

According to Baqaei, the talks focused on two key issues: lifting US sanctions and resolving the nuclear dispute. He said the negotiation period could have been extended if both sides failed to reach an agreement. However, he claimed Washington violated the memorandum soon after its signing.

The spokesman said dialogue did not begin because of what he called widespread US violations. As a result, he said, discussions surrounding the Iran US talks deadline no longer had practical relevance. Baqaei also rejected claims that a lack of mediators was preventing progress.

He noted that Pakistan and Qatar were already involved in diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington. Baqaei said some European countries had also expressed willingness to provide diplomatic assistance. However, he stressed that this did not mean a new mediator had been formally accepted.

Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are continuing discussions over maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Baqaei said security concerns and multiple actors had complicated efforts to prepare a maritime traffic route map. Any understanding could include a roadmap and joint statement.

Baqaei also said Iran remained focused on determining the fate of missing military pilots. Qatar previously denied Iranian claims that three pilots were being held there. The latest developments come after US and Israeli attacks on Iran and subsequent retaliatory strikes, followed by efforts to revive a collapsed ceasefire and peace agreement.
