Persistent Islamabad rain continued on Friday as intermittent showers affected both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to maintain a high alert during the ongoing monsoon season. Authorities have deployed emergency teams and machinery to prevent urban flooding in vulnerable areas.
WASA Managing Director said field teams, drainage equipment, and heavy machinery have been positioned in low-lying locations to respond quickly if water levels rise. Officials are closely monitoring drainage channels to minimise disruptions caused by continued rainfall.
According to WASA, the water flow in Nullah Lai remained within normal limits despite the ongoing rain. However, rainwater accumulated at the Seventh Avenue underpass in Islamabad, causing temporary traffic disruptions and slowing vehicle movement during peak hours.
Official rainfall data showed varying levels of precipitation across different parts of the twin cities. Saidpur received 31 millimetres of rain, Golra recorded 40 millimetres, Bokra 17 millimetres, Shamsabad 13 millimetres, and New Katarian 17 millimetres during the latest spell.
Authorities said the Islamabad rain is expected to continue as the monsoon system remains active. Residents living in low-lying areas have been advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall to reduce safety risks.
Emergency response teams remain on standby around the clock to address any flooding or drainage-related emergencies. Traffic authorities are also monitoring major roads and underpasses where water accumulation could affect commuters.
The continued Islamabad rain highlights the importance of preparedness during the monsoon season. Officials urged the public to follow weather advisories and cooperate with emergency services to ensure public safety until weather conditions improve.
