new provinces in Pakistan

Mustafa Kamal Calls for Creation of New Provinces in Pakistan

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has called for new provinces in Pakistan, saying the current administrative structure needs major reform.

Addressing the Pakistan Pharma Healthcare Expo, Kamal questioned the lack of accountability when children die after falling into uncovered drains. He said public safety should receive equal attention.

Kamal said the federal government distributes Rs8,884 billion annually among the provinces. However, he argued that the existing system does not ensure funds reach union councils effectively.

The minister said Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cover areas larger than several countries. He also said Sindh is larger than 165 countries, while Balochistan exceeds the area of 180 countries.

Kamal noted that Pakistan had four provinces when its population stood at around 37 million. He said the population has now reached about 265 million, while the country still has the same four provinces.

He argued that new provinces in Pakistan would not weaken the country. Instead, he said stronger administrative units could improve governance and address growing regional challenges.

Kamal also called for political parties to sit together and find a constitutional solution to administrative issues. He said the government should focus on strengthening systems rather than leaving basic responsibilities unresolved.
