Pakistan has welcomed progress in the Iran-US peace process, describing the Islamabad MoU and subsequent negotiations in Switzerland as a major success for diplomacy. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the developments have strengthened confidence in dialogue as the most effective way to resolve regional disputes and conflicts.
Speaking at a weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Andrabi noted that the Islamabad MoU was electronically signed on June 18 and marked a significant diplomatic breakthrough. He said Pakistan and Qatar later facilitated a high-level meeting in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, where both sides discussed practical steps for implementing the agreement.
According to the Foreign Office, the talks resulted in the establishment of a high-level committee to oversee the mediation process. Chief negotiators will regularly report to the committee, while working groups will focus on key issues including nuclear matters, sanctions, monitoring mechanisms, and dispute resolution.
A major outcome of the discussions was an agreement on a roadmap aimed at achieving a final settlement within 60 days. Officials also agreed to establish a communication mechanism to prevent misunderstandings and ensure the safe movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The spokesperson said Pakistan and Qatar would continue engaging with technical teams from both Iran and the United States to support the implementation of the Islamabad MoU. He added that international recognition of Pakistan’s mediation efforts reflects growing trust in its role as a promoter of peace and regional stability.
Andrabi also highlighted extensive diplomatic engagements involving Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who recently held consultations with counterparts from several countries. Discussions focused on regional developments, the progress of the peace process, and efforts to strengthen diplomatic cooperation.
The Foreign Office further said Pakistan is actively pursuing the release of Pakistani sailors held by Somali pirates through diplomatic and humanitarian channels. As the Islamabad MoU process moves forward, officials expressed hope that continued dialogue would contribute to broader regional peace and stability.
