Pakistan Russia security cooperation entered a new phase as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Russia’s Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev signed a series of agreements aimed at enhancing collaboration on immigration control, citizen repatriation and anti-narcotics operations. The accords were signed on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Interior Ministers’ meeting, reflecting growing engagement between the two countries on security-related issues.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior, the newly signed agreements focus on curbing illegal immigration, improving coordination for the return of citizens residing unlawfully in either country and expanding joint efforts against narcotics trafficking. Officials described the agreements as an important step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing shared challenges.
Pakistan Russia security cooperation was one of several topics discussed during Minister Naqvi’s meetings with counterparts from Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The engagements highlighted a broader regional effort to improve coordination on security, law enforcement and border management matters.
During talks with Tajikistan’s Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda, both sides expressed concern over security developments in Afghanistan. The ministers discussed the presence of terrorist training camps and the growing production of narcotics, which they said continue to threaten regional stability and security.
Officials from Pakistan and Tajikistan also noted concerns regarding the activities of multiple terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory. They stressed the importance of regional cooperation and information sharing to address cross-border threats and prevent the spread of extremism and organised crime.
In separate meetings with Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, Naqvi discussed ways to institutionalise cooperation through joint working groups, intelligence sharing and training programmes. These initiatives are expected to improve communication between law enforcement agencies and support coordinated responses to emerging security challenges.
The latest agreements demonstrate the increasing importance of Pakistan Russia security cooperation within the broader SCO framework. Observers believe that enhanced collaboration on immigration, counter-narcotics efforts and regional security could contribute to greater stability and stronger diplomatic ties among participating countries.
