The Pakistan Saudi Arabia cricket stadium project moved forward on Monday as the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a modern cricket stadium in Jeddah. The agreement reflects growing sports cooperation between Islamabad and Riyadh while supporting Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to expand cricket and strengthen its sports infrastructure under Vision 2030.
The MoU was signed by Saudi Cricket Federation Chairman Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Muhammad Al Saud and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The agreement formalises collaboration on planning, designing and developing a world-class cricket venue in Jeddah.
Under the partnership, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will jointly develop stadium infrastructure, exchange technical expertise and improve operational standards. Pakistan will contribute its extensive experience in cricket stadium design, construction and facility management to help deliver an international-standard venue.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Muhammad Al Saud said the partnership extends beyond constructing a stadium. He described the project as an important step toward the long-term development of cricket in Saudi Arabia and a reflection of the strong relationship between the two countries.
Officials said the proposed stadium is expected to enable Saudi Arabia to host international cricket matches, regional tournaments and training camps. The initiative also aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by promoting investment in sports, tourism and entertainment while encouraging greater community participation in sporting activities.
The collaboration is also expected to strengthen sports diplomacy between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. It could create opportunities for Pakistani engineers, architects, coaches and sports administrators while encouraging international cricket organisations to consider Saudi Arabia as a future neutral venue for major events.
The Pakistan Saudi Arabia cricket stadium initiative highlights the expanding partnership between the two countries beyond traditional diplomatic ties. Officials believe the project could pave the way for additional cricket infrastructure developments across the Middle East and contribute to the region’s growing sporting profile.
