Pakistan Urges UN Action on Gaza Peace Plan

Pakistan urges UN Gaza peace plan implementation as Islamabad called on the United Nations Security Council to ensure full enforcement of the Gaza ceasefire and peace framework. Pakistan warned that delays could damage efforts for a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.

Speaking at a UNSC open debate on the Middle East situation, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said the discussion provided an opportunity to review regional developments. He stressed the need for urgent action to protect peace efforts.

The Pakistani envoy said the ceasefire and the peace plan supported by the UN Security Council had created an opportunity to reduce humanitarian suffering and move toward Palestinian self-determination. However, he warned that delays in implementation could weaken prospects for a fair and lasting peace.

Ahmad also raised concerns over Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, saying continued construction, new settlement outposts, and settler violence were changing the demographic and geographic situation of Palestinian territories. He called for an immediate halt to settlement activities.

Pakistan also rejected any attempts involving annexation, forced displacement, or changes to the status of occupied Palestinian territories. The ambassador urged international protection for Palestinians and accountability for violations against civilians.

Discussing Gaza, Ahmad described the humanitarian situation as extremely fragile. He said despite some improvements after the ceasefire, many Palestinians continued facing severe food insecurity and difficult living conditions.

The Pakistani envoy urged the Security Council to act with unity and support the full implementation of the Gaza peace framework. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
