Pakistan and the United States have made progress in discussions aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, with both sides agreeing to finalize the Pakistan US trade framework at the earliest. The development came during a virtual meeting between Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, where key trade and economic issues were discussed.
According to the Ministry of Finance, both countries reviewed the progress of ongoing negotiations and expressed their commitment to completing the trade framework soon. Officials said closer economic cooperation between Pakistan and the US could create new opportunities for businesses and support stronger trade relations between the two countries.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed the progress made after discussions held in Washington and highlighted the importance of expanding bilateral trade ties. He said a stronger trade partnership with the United States could help increase Pakistan’s exports and contribute to long-term economic growth.
During the meeting, officials discussed ways to improve trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. The two sides also agreed on the need to enhance collaboration with the US Export-Import Bank to encourage investment opportunities and support economic partnerships.
The US Trade Representative appreciated Pakistan’s labor and regulatory reforms, according to the Ministry of Finance. Jamieson Greer also expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s efforts regarding reforms related to eliminating forced labor and said remaining issues would be addressed through technical-level discussions.
Both countries agreed to accelerate technical negotiations and maintain close communication to resolve pending matters. Officials said continued engagement would help strengthen economic cooperation and further develop the relationship between Pakistan and the United States in trade and investment sectors.
