Pakistan’s IT Exports Surge 21% to Record $4.6 Billion

Pakistan IT exports reached a record $4.6 billion during the financial year 2025-26, reflecting strong growth in the country’s technology sector. According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), IT exports increased by 21% compared to the previous fiscal year, driven by supportive government policies, tax incentives, and expanding freelance services.

The central bank also reported a new monthly record for June 2026. IT exports climbed to $416 million, marking a 12% increase from May 2026 and a 23% rise compared to June 2025. The figures highlight sustained momentum in Pakistan’s digital economy.

Experts believe that tax relief measures, improved government support, and a more business-friendly environment have played a significant role in boosting the performance of the IT industry. They say these initiatives encouraged technology companies and startups to expand exports while strengthening investor confidence.

The Pakistan IT exports sector also benefited from the continued growth of freelancing. According to the report, Pakistani freelancers generated more than $1 billion in export earnings for the first time in the country’s history, reflecting increasing global demand for digital services provided by local professionals.

Industry analysts say Pakistan’s expanding pool of software developers, IT professionals, and digital entrepreneurs has helped diversify export earnings beyond traditional sectors. The country’s growing reputation in software development, business process outsourcing, and digital services has also contributed to higher foreign exchange inflows.

Government officials have repeatedly identified the IT sector as a key driver of economic growth, employment, and export diversification. Continued investment in digital infrastructure, skills development, and technology innovation is expected to further strengthen Pakistan’s position in international IT markets.

The latest SBP data underscores the growing importance of the technology sector in Pakistan’s economy. With record export earnings and rising freelance income, the IT industry is emerging as one of the country’s fastest-growing sources of foreign exchange and long-term economic development.
