PCB Introduces New Fitness Policy for Domestic Cricketers

PCB fitness policy has been introduced for Pakistan’s domestic cricketers as the Pakistan Cricket Board unveiled a standardized fitness testing system for the 2026-27 domestic season. The new framework aims to improve players’ physical conditioning and ensure domestic athletes meet the demands of modern international cricket.

According to the PCB, the policy was developed by Director of Sports and Exercise Medicine Javed Mughal. The board said the new system is designed to provide a simple, reliable and consistent method of evaluating fitness across all levels of domestic cricket while maintaining high performance standards.

The policy will apply to regional, departmental, district and zonal teams throughout the country. It introduces a two-tier fitness assessment based on the level and age group of players, allowing the PCB to evaluate athletes through a structured and uniform process.

Under Tier 1, players from 20 regional teams, eight departmental first-class teams and more than 25 Grade-II departmental teams will complete 11 fitness tests, providing up to 17 scoring opportunities. This category includes the country’s top domestic cricketers competing at the highest level.

Tier 2 covers senior district teams, Under-19 district teams, and regional Under-15 and Under-17 squads. Players in this group will undergo eight fitness tests with a maximum of 12 scoring opportunities. The system is intended to help young players develop fitness standards from an early stage of their careers.

The PCB said Tier 1 players may receive up to seven red scores and still pass the assessment, while eight or more red scores will result in failure and require one re-test. Tier 2 players will fail if they receive six or more red scores. Players who pass will be reassessed after approximately six months to measure their progress.

Fitness assessments will be conducted by PCB-approved strength and conditioning coaches, with all results submitted to the National Cricket Academy and the board’s Medical and Sports Science Department. The PCB believes the new fitness policy will strengthen player development and improve the overall standard of domestic cricket in Pakistan.
