The PML-N AJK elections have resulted in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz securing a simple majority to form the next government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), according to Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah. He said the party has won 23 out of the 45 contested seats in the Legislative Assembly based on available results.
Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Rana Sanaullah stated that PML-N secured four of the seven seats contested in the Muzaffarabad Division. He added that the party also won ten of the twelve refugee seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured the remaining two refugee constituencies.
Rana Sanaullah described the electoral process as free, fair, and transparent. He congratulated party workers and supporters for their efforts, saying the outcome reflected public confidence in the PML-N leadership and its development agenda for Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam called the election outcome a victory for democracy. He said the federal government would continue fulfilling its commitments regarding development, infrastructure, and public welfare projects across Azad Kashmir. He also appreciated the peaceful participation of voters and political parties throughout the election process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and the party’s successful candidates through a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. He said the election results demonstrated the people’s trust in PML-N policies and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the lives of AJK residents through continued development initiatives.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, PML-N maintained a comfortable lead over its rivals throughout both phases of the elections. The party performed strongly in the Mirpur and Muzaffarabad divisions, while PPP remained the second-largest political force after winning several key constituencies across the territory.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly consists of 53 seats, including reserved seats for women, technocrats, overseas Kashmiris, and refugees. While reserved seats will be allocated under constitutional procedures, the PML-N AJK elections performance has placed the party in a strong position to form the next government and shape the region’s political agenda.
