At least two people were killed and nine others injured in Punjab rain-related incidents during the past 24 hours as strong winds and heavy rainfall affected several districts, according to Rescue 1122. Authorities have also warned that another spell of widespread windstorms and thundershowers is expected to continue across the province until July 6, increasing the risk of further weather-related emergencies.
Rescue 1122 Punjab spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said the two fatalities occurred in Attock after a wall collapsed near Naya Pump during intense rainfall and strong winds. The incident also left three people injured as rescue teams responded to the emergency and shifted the victims for medical treatment.
Another accident was reported in Attock’s Para Shaheen Bagh, where the roof of a house collapsed due to severe weather conditions. Three people were injured in the incident. Rescue officials urged residents to remain cautious around old or damaged buildings as unstable structures pose a greater risk during heavy rain and windstorms.
The Punjab rain-related incidents also affected other districts. In Khushab’s Quaidabad area, one person was injured after being struck by lightning during the storm. In Sargodha, another individual suffered injuries when a roadside signboard collapsed because of strong winds, while in Sheikhupura, one person was hurt after a wooden roof gave way on Chak Risala Road.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the current weather system is being driven by a westerly wave combined with moisture-laden currents. These conditions are expected to produce widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across much of Punjab through July 6.
Officials have warned that the ongoing weather system could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities and increase the danger of lightning strikes in open spaces. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed local administrations to remain on high alert and ensure emergency services are fully prepared.
The latest Punjab rain-related incidents serve as a reminder of the hazards associated with the pre-monsoon season. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, stay away from weak structures and follow official weather advisories until the current spell of rain subsides.
