Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Shehbaz Sharif water statement at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek that water guarantees life and the future of coming generations. He stressed that countries must not use water for political purposes or as a tool of pressure.
Addressing the SCO summit, Shehbaz Sharif said the organisation remains an important platform for global peace and stability. He described the completion of the SCO’s 25 years as an important milestone and said Pakistan remains an active and responsible member.
The prime minister said the global situation faces growing geopolitical tensions and new security challenges. He stressed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and respect for international law. He also highlighted the importance of collective efforts to address shared regional challenges.
Shehbaz Sharif said recent crises had highlighted the importance of secure energy corridors. He said Pakistan played an effective role in supporting peace during regional tensions. He also described the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as an important step towards reducing tensions and promoting lasting regional peace.

The prime minister particularly highlighted water security in his address. Shehbaz Sharif water statement stressed that water remains vital for South Asia and future generations. He said countries must fully implement international agreements according to both their spirit and wording.
Speaking about Palestine, Shehbaz Sharif said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank had caused unimaginable suffering. He urged the international community to respect the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. He also described terrorism as one of the region’s most serious threats.
On Afghanistan, the prime minister said Pakistan wants a peaceful, stable and prosperous country. He stressed that Afghan territory cannot be allowed to serve against Pakistan. During Pakistan’s upcoming SCO chairmanship, he said Islamabad will prioritise energy, information technology, health, culture and sports while promoting connectivity, innovation and shared prosperity.
