UK Heatwave: Temperatures Could Reach 36°C as Fifth Heatwave Hits

The United Kingdom is experiencing its fifth heatwave of 2026, with temperatures remaining above 30°C across several areas. Forecasters are expecting further hot weather, with some parts of England potentially experiencing temperatures as high as 36°C.

According to media reports, the UK recorded 34 days with temperatures above 30°C in 1995. In 2026, the number of days exceeding the 30°C mark has already reached 35, highlighting the persistence of unusually warm conditions during the summer.

Weather officials have forecast temperatures of up to 36°C in East Anglia and southeast England on Thursday. The expected rise has prompted increased attention from health authorities as high temperatures can create additional risks for vulnerable members of the population.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow health alert covering several areas, including London, the East and West Midlands, and Yorkshire and the Humber. The warning reflects concerns over the potential health impact of continued hot weather.

Authorities are advising people to take precautions during periods of extreme heat. Older people, children and individuals who may be particularly vulnerable to high temperatures are being encouraged to remain hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure during the hottest parts of the day.

The prolonged hot and dry conditions have also contributed to an increased risk of wildfires. Media reports indicate that fires have been reported in some areas amid dry weather, creating additional challenges for emergency and fire services.
