Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Refinery and Missile Facility, Zelenskiy Says

Ukraine strikes Russia intensified on Wednesday as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukrainian forces carried out long-range attacks on a Russian oil refinery in Ufa and a strategic missile component facility in the Penza region. The latest strikes are part of Kyiv’s broader campaign to disrupt Russia’s military and energy infrastructure.

In a statement shared on X, Zelenskiy said Ukraine’s long-range operations were being carried out daily in response to Russian attacks. He described the strikes as a “just response” to Russia’s military actions, adding that Kyiv would continue targeting facilities linked to Moscow’s war effort.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the oil refinery in Ufa, located more than 1,300 kilometres from the frontline, was struck for the second time. Officials also reported an attack on a military-industrial facility in the Penza region, around 600 kilometres from the frontline, which Ukraine said produces components for cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, aircraft avionics, and reconnaissance satellites.

The General Staff identified the Penza facility as part of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos. Ukrainian officials said damaging the site could affect Russia’s ability to manufacture advanced military equipment used in attacks against Ukraine.

The military also announced strikes on two bridges in Russian-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk, along with a logistics crossing in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian authorities said these operations are intended to disrupt Russian military supply routes and slow troop movements behind the frontline.

Ukraine’s Defence Ministry stated that its forces targeted 11 oil refineries, fuel logistics facilities, military factories, and other strategic sites during June. Separately, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said it struck hangars housing Russian fighter aircraft at an airfield in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The latest Ukraine strikes Russia campaign comes as Kyiv seeks to increase pressure on Moscow through long-range operations. Last week, Zelenskiy announced approval of a 40-day campaign aimed at influencing Russia to end the war, which has now entered its fifth year.
