Security Forces Kill 17 Militants in Balochistan Counterterrorism Operations

Pakistan’s security forces have killed 17 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations in Balochistan, according to the military’s media wing. The Balochistan counterterrorism operations were carried out in response to growing security concerns following last month’s deadly train bombing in Quetta.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operations were conducted in multiple districts, including Mastung, Nushki, Zehri, Khuzdar, and Kech. Security personnel targeted suspected militant hideouts based on intelligence gathered after the May 24 train attack.

According to the military, troops engaged several militant locations during the operations. Intense exchanges of fire took place, resulting in the deaths of 17 suspected militants. Officials described the action as a significant setback to militant networks operating in parts of the province.

The Balochistan counterterrorism operations followed a suicide bombing on a train in Quetta that claimed the lives of more than 30 people. The incident prompted security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering and launch targeted operations against suspected militant groups.

ISPR stated that security forces recovered weapons, ammunition, explosives, and prepared improvised explosive devices from the sites of the operations. Authorities believe the recovered materials were intended for use in future attacks targeting civilians and security personnel.

Officials said that efforts to dismantle militant infrastructure remain ongoing. Security agencies are continuing search and clearance activities in affected areas to prevent the regrouping of armed elements and to strengthen public safety.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the Balochistan counterterrorism operations under the national counterterrorism strategy known as Azm-e-Istehkam. Authorities said security forces and law enforcement agencies would maintain pressure on militant networks to enhance stability and security across the country.
