The Karachi flour prices increase has officially come into effect after the city administration issued a revised price notification. The updated rates, released on July 9, replace the previous prices announced on May 12, reflecting an increase in both wholesale and retail flour prices across Karachi.
According to the latest notification, the wholesale price of regular flour has increased from Rs110 per kilogram to Rs122 per kilogram. Similarly, the retail price of regular flour has been revised upward from Rs113 to Rs125 per kilogram, affecting consumers and retailers alike.
The notification also announced higher prices for fine flour. The wholesale rate has been raised from Rs118 to Rs132 per kilogram, while the retail price has increased from Rs121 to Rs135 per kilogram, marking a noticeable rise compared to the previous official rates.
Despite the increase in regular and fine flour prices, the retail price of chakki flour has remained unchanged at Rs145 per kilogram. Officials said the existing rate for chakki flour will continue until any further revision is announced.
The Commissioner of Karachi has directed all shopkeepers to prominently display the official government price list at their business premises. Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against retailers found violating the officially notified flour prices.
Market observers believe the revised flour rates may have an impact on household budgets, particularly for low- and middle-income families. Consumers are expected to monitor market compliance with the newly announced official prices in the coming days.
