PMD Forecasts Weekend Rain in Upper Pakistan

The Pakistan weather forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts rain, windstorms and thunderstorms across the country’s upper regions over the weekend. The weather system is expected to bring isolated heavy rainfall to several areas from Friday night through Monday, prompting authorities to remain on alert.

According to the PMD, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously entering the upper parts of Pakistan and are expected to strengthen on Saturday evening. A westerly weather system is also likely to approach northern regions, increasing the chances of widespread rainfall.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from Friday night until Monday. Gilgit-Baltistan, including Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Ghanche and Shigar, is also expected to receive rain during the same period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to experience rain and thunderstorms in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Waziristan and several adjoining districts on Saturday and Sunday. Similar weather is also expected in Islamabad and many districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Sheikhupura.

The PMD said southern Punjab may receive scattered rainfall from Saturday night into Sunday, affecting Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur and nearby districts. Meanwhile, isolated rain is expected in parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Dera Bugti and Khuzdar.

Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and very humid throughout the forecast period. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms may occur in Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Dadu and Jacobabad on Sunday and Monday.

The PMD has warned that heavy rain could trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad, while landslides remain possible in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Citizens, tourists and farmers have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel and plan outdoor activities according to the weather forecast.
