Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said IRGC targeted US command centre in Syria during a retaliatory operation, according to Iranian state media. The Guards claimed the strike targeted a US special operations command centre at al-Tanf following the killing of Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr.
According to the IRGC, the operation was carried out in response to what it described as recent US attacks. Iranian state media reported that the strike was intended as retaliation, although no additional operational details or casualty figures were provided.
The claim could not be independently verified. Reuters reported that neither the United States military nor the Syrian government immediately commented on the Iranian statement. The absence of official confirmation means the reported attack remains unverified.
The US military had previously announced in February that it completed its withdrawal from the al-Tanf base, located near the border junction of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. It remains unclear whether any American forces or facilities were present at the location mentioned by the IRGC.
Syria has repeatedly stated that it wants to remain outside the wider regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. President Ahmed al-Sharaa said earlier this year that Syria would avoid entering any conflict unless its own territory came under direct attack.
In a separate statement cited by Iranian state media, the IRGC said Iran would continue targeting US positions in the region in response to attacks against Iranian interests. It also claimed that Iran maintained full control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The Guards further stated that no oil or gas exports would pass through the Strait of Hormuz while US attacks continued. The latest claims come as tensions across the Middle East remain high, with governments closely monitoring developments and urging restraint to prevent further escalation.
