PM Shehbaz Welcomes Trump’s Support for Makkah Defence Pact

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s supportive remarks about the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The prime minister said he deeply appreciated Trump’s words in support of the recently signed agreement.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye earlier this month. Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three participating countries is to be regarded as an attack against all three, establishing a framework for closer collective defence cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would continue working with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to help safeguard its own security as well as contribute to the defence and stability of the wider region. The agreement has been described by Pakistani officials as defensive in nature and not directed against any particular country.

Trump recently described the agreement as a “big, bold and important first step” toward the three countries strengthening their ability to defend themselves. His comments came days after the pact was signed in Makkah, highlighting Washington’s public acknowledgment of the new regional defence arrangement.

The prime minister also praised Trump for what he described as courageous leadership in helping avert a nuclear catastrophe in South Asia and potentially saving millions of lives. The remarks reflect Islamabad’s appreciation of Washington’s role in recent regional diplomacy.

Shehbaz Sharif further stressed that lasting peace is essential for a brighter and more prosperous future for the people. His statement comes amid heightened security tensions across the Middle East and continued efforts by regional countries to strengthen their collective security mechanisms.

The development underscores Pakistan’s growing defence and strategic cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. With the Makkah agreement focused on mutual defence, the three countries are expected to explore deeper coordination in areas including military cooperation, strategic planning and defence capabilities.
