Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo was remembered with rich tributes at a memorial reference held in Lahore under the banner of the National Public Forum. Political leaders, senior journalists, intellectuals and members of the late leader’s family gathered to honour his contributions to Pakistan’s politics and public service.
Former Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Minhaj-ul-Quran leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and renowned writer Saeed Aasi addressed the gathering. Family members, including Muazzam Wattoo, Khurram Wattoo, Jahan Ara Wattoo, Ayesha Wattoo, Muhammad Akram Chaudhry and Mudassar Iqbal, also shared their memories of the late politician.
During the ceremony, participants highlighted Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo’s political wisdom, tolerance and statesmanship. They said he earned respect across political divides due to his patience, humility and commitment to democratic values throughout his political career.
The meeting unanimously elected Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar as Chairman of the National Public Forum. Accepting the responsibility, Sarwar pledged to lead the forum in accordance with the vision and principles of Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarwar said the late leader’s dignity, tolerance and courteous conduct were admired by both political allies and opponents. He described Wattoo as a politician who always placed national interest above personal considerations.
Senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami recalled that Mian Manzoor Wattoo never lost his composure, even when faced with harsh criticism. Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said Pakistan’s political landscape still feels the absence of visionary and prudent leaders like Wattoo.
The memorial reference concluded with prayers for the departed leader. Journalists, intellectuals and public figures, including Hafeezullah Niazi, Dr. Sughra Sadaf, Noorullah Siddiqui, Khalid Farooqi, Anwar Samra and Khawar Saleem, reaffirmed their commitment to promoting the democratic values and spirit of tolerance associated with Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo.
