Islamabad: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said Pakistan’s security forces have carried out more than 40,000 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts. He stated that militants must either surrender in accordance with the law or face continued military action.
Speaking at a press briefing on counterterrorism and national security, the DG ISPR said large-scale operations have been conducted across the country over the past five years. He noted that more than 31,000 intelligence-based operations have been carried out in Balochistan, while 7,177 operations have been conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that 819 people have lost their lives in terrorist incidents so far this year. According to the figures shared during the briefing, 303 soldiers were martyred while fighting terrorism, while 322 civilians also lost their lives in terrorist attacks.
The DG ISPR further stated that security forces have killed 2,084 confirmed terrorists this year. He added that the forces conducted an average of 194 intelligence-based operations per day, with nearly 10 militants neutralized daily. He also said that 28 suicide attacks were recorded during the period and alleged that Afghan nationals were involved in incidents that took place in Tank and Karachi.
Addressing the security situation in Balochistan, the military spokesperson said there are deliberate attempts to create the perception that conditions in the province are worsening. He maintained that security forces remain committed to restoring peace and stability through sustained counterterrorism operations.
