French Soldier Killed in UN Peacekeeper Attack in Lebanon

A UN peacekeepers Lebanon attack in southern Lebanon has resulted in the death of a French soldier, while three others were injured during an ambush on Saturday, according to official statements from France.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that the UN peacekeepers Lebanon attack killed Master Sergeant Florian Montorio, who was serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), while three colleagues were wounded.

The UN peacekeepers Lebanon attack took place in the southern region of the country, where the peacekeeping team was reportedly engaged in clearing a route to a UN position that had been blocked due to ongoing tensions.

France’s defence ministry stated that the soldier was ambushed at close range by an armed group, with President Macron suggesting that “everything points to Hezbollah’s responsibility” in the UN peacekeepers Lebanon attack.

French authorities have demanded that Lebanese officials launch an immediate investigation and bring those responsible to justice, while ensuring cooperation with UN peacekeeping forces in the region.

The UN peacekeepers Lebanon attack comes at a sensitive time, as a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah is in place, raising concerns over renewed instability in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities have condemned the incident and announced an investigation, while tensions remain high as international forces continue monitoring the security situation in the region.
