Marco Rubio Says US Will Not Accept Strait of Hormuz as Property of Any Single Country

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the United States will not accept the Strait of Hormuz as the property of any single country, emphasizing the strategic importance of the waterway for global trade and international security.

Speaking to foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Bahrain, Rubio said the United States is seeking a sustainable and genuine peace that does not compromise the security, stability, or prosperity of America and its allies.

He stressed that Washington would ensure that no agreement or decision is made at the expense of its regional partners. According to Rubio, any future understanding with Iran must take into account the interests and security concerns of US allies in the Middle East.

The US secretary of state said that technical teams are scheduled to return to Switzerland on June 30 for another round of discussions with Iranian officials. The talks are expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear program and issues related to international sanctions.

Rubio noted that diplomatic engagement remains an important part of efforts to reduce tensions and address long-standing disputes. He expressed hope that continued negotiations could pave the way for a mutually acceptable agreement.

He further stated that the United States is committed to making a potential agreement with Iran successful and is prepared to take all necessary diplomatic steps to achieve that objective. However, he reiterated that Washington’s position on freedom of navigation remains unchanged.
