MQM Pakistan new administrative units demand gained fresh momentum after party chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui hinted at a march from Karachi to Islamabad. He made the remarks while addressing an MQM-P rally focused on creating new administrative units and strengthening local governments.
Siddiqui said Karachi had delivered its decision and described the gathering as an important political development. He said MQM-P workers had created another chapter in the city’s political history while emphasizing greater public participation in governance.
The MQM-P chairman said the party’s caravan could travel from Karachi to Islamabad. He linked the proposed march with the broader demand for new administrative units across Sindh and other parts of Pakistan.
Siddiqui also called for a form of participatory democracy in which citizens have a greater role in decision-making. The party has repeatedly raised issues concerning local government powers, administrative arrangements and the distribution of authority.
Speaking at the rally, Farooq Sattar said Karachi residents had expressed support for transferring greater powers to local institutions. He said a new period of partnership had begun and described the gathering as an expression of years of public patience.
Sattar also referred to participation from different parts of Sindh. He called for political change in cities including Sukkur, Mirpur Khas and Nawabshah and said local political leadership should reflect the demands of their residents.
The rally has brought the issue of administrative restructuring and empowered local governments back into political discussion. The proposed Karachi-to-Islamabad march could further highlight MQM-P’s demands at the national level.
