Veteran Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his life, revealing that he was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and underwent surgery to remove a tumour.
During a recent interview, the celebrated actor spoke candidly about the emotional impact of receiving the diagnosis. He said he was diagnosed with cancer near his ear and remembered turning towards the sky during prayer on the day he received the news.
According to Nauman, he reflected on his life and told Allah that he had never intentionally harmed anyone or taken another person’s rights. He said he prayed that if his purpose in life had been fulfilled, he would rather be called by Allah than see his family suffer because of his illness.
The actor also recalled how difficult the prospect of treatment was for him. He said he did not want to spend his days going from hospital to hospital or experience painful procedures such as chemotherapy. During that period, he would pray and read extensively before going to sleep.
Nauman said that after people learned about his illness, a close friend advised him to regularly recite Surah Rahman. He followed the advice and has continued reciting the Surah ever since.
The actor said he personally feels that Surah Rahman played a major role in helping him through the difficult period. His comments reflected the strong place faith holds in his personal journey and how spiritual practices gave him comfort during uncertainty.
Nauman further revealed that his surgery was successful and doctors removed the tumour. He said his first chemotherapy session had been scheduled for July 23, 2024. However, he was called by doctors one day earlier and was told that they could not find any remaining cancerous material, meaning chemotherapy was no longer required.
